"We looked at numerous 5S and 6S generic systems of operation emphasizing a safe, clean and lean workplace for our center. Those just didn't meet our specific needs as a secondary training center so I worked to develop a custom 5S system that meets our needs while aligning with NEA business and industry. It will become how we do things, our way of life," Crain noted.
The five components of the NEACTC "Safe, C
LEAN and
NEAC
TC Workplace include:
- Safe use of all tools and a clear understanding of emergency procedures
- Constant inventory accounting, usage and knowledge of how to properly dispose of items no longer needed or working
- A place for everything and everything in its place
- Clean work areas which promotes a safe working environment
- Sustaining clean, neat, organized and safe work areas--EVERYDAY
Customized posters have been created, printed and are in the process of being installed in every classroom at NEACTC.
"We are ramping up--emphasizing and modeling the culture necessary to promote the 5S Workplace initiative at NEACTC. In fact, I have removed numerous unnecessary items from my own office as I begin modeling this initiative for my staff. This is not a say one thing and then do something else initiative. We are all in this together," Crain stated.
Businesses and industry partners not presently participating on an NEACTC advisory board are encouraged to join Arkansas's largest secondary career center today in pursuit of our mission...To prepare students TODAY for outstanding careers TOMORROW.
